Help Save Zorro
At the end of June, Zorro was found as a stray with severe infected wounds across his back.
After intensive wound cleaning at the vet and multiple medications, his wounds are healing but his fight isn't over.
The moment we met Zorro, we fell in love. Despite everything he's been through, he's the sweetest boy. He purrs through the pain. He rubs against our legs looking for affection. He is so obviously just a kitten who never got to be one. It's clear to us that Zorro wants to be someone's house cat. We just need to get him there.
Over the last couple of months, we've already spent $2,263 on emergency veterinary care while treating his wounds, investigating his breathing difficulties, and searching for answers.
Yesterday, August 22nd, we brought Zorro back to the vet for his recheck after an intensive course of Clindamycin for suspected toxoplasmosis.
And honestly, we had really hoped we'd have better news.
Zorro is happier. He's eating. He's gained almost a full pound. He wants attention, he wants to be loved, and he is still very much the sweet, affectionate boy we've come to know. But medically, he hasn't improved.
He is still having coughing fits, and his chest radiographs and physical exam showed that there has been no meaningful improvement in his lungs. So while Zorro may feel better, we still don't have an answer for why he is struggling to breathe.
And we need that answer.
At this point, his veterinarian is recommending a sedated thoracic lavage with culture and cytology, estimated at another $900. This will allow them to get a much closer look at what's happening in his lungs and hopefully identify an infection, inflammation, or other underlying cause that we can actually target with treatment.
We rescued Zorro because we promised him we'd do everything we could to give him the life he deserves and over the past two months, Zorro has made one thing very clear: he wants to live.
He wants to play. He wants to be snuggled. He wants to rub against your legs and purr. He wants to be someone's baby.
So we're going to keep fighting for him. If Zorro won't give up, neither will we. His foster mom and I made him a promise when we took him in, and we're going to keep that promise for as long as he keeps fighting alongside us.
If you'd like to help us get Zorro the answers he needs, we'd be incredibly grateful. Every donation, share, and person following his journey helps us keep saying yes to the next step.
