Every confident cat, every playful kitten, every adoption story begins with someone saying, "I have room for one."

Every day, we receive requests to help 10 or more cats, but the number we can save is limited by the number of open foster homes we have.

A spare room, a bathroom, or even a quiet corner with a crate can be the difference between another night outside and the start of a better life.

We are currently looking for foster homes within approximately 30 miles of New Milford, Connecticut, so our volunteers can easily provide supplies, transport cats to veterinary appointments, and support you throughout your fostering journey.

Join us in changing their tomorrow. Become a foster, and give a cat the chance to experience safety, comfort, and love while they wait for the forever home they deserve.

Last year, our foster families gave 41 cats a second chance. This year, we'd love to save even more!

Currently seeking foster homes for:

  • Kittens too young for adoption

  • Friendly strays waiting for families

  • Cats recovering from medical care

  • Shy cats learning to trust people

Fostering FAQ

“Before I began fostering, I didn’t think I could handle it. I didn’t think that I could let go of cats that I knew I would grow to love. However, I have had the best experiences fostering some wonderful and even cats who weren't so wonderful at first! It has been a journey of growth for both the cats and myself. The cats I have fostered taught me an immense amount of patience as well as the importance of trust. I have been happy to give them both. To make them realize that they are safe, cared for, and loved.

One of the best parts about fostering is seeing these incredibly deserving babies go to loving homes and absolutely thriving.

Despurate House Cats is a supportive organization that is there for you every step of the way! I’m thankful for the opportunities they have given me to help in their greater mission.”
