We're so excited you're considering adoption through Despurate House Cats. Our goal isn't just to find homes for our cats, we're committed to finding the right home for each individual cat. Thank you for taking the time to complete our application to the fullest! Please review the following steps to expedite the process.
What Happens Next?
1. Please call your veterinarian.
We require a veterinary reference for all adopters with current or previous pets.
Please contact your veterinary hospital and authorize them to speak with Despurate House Cats about your pets' care. Many clinics cannot release information without your permission, so doing this now helps prevent delays.
2. Send us a few photos of your cat's "safe room."
We ask that all newly adopted cats begin in a small, quiet area of the home while they adjust.
Please email us a few photos of the space where your new cat will spend their first several days. This helps us:
Make sure there are no obvious escape routes
Offer suggestions to make the transition smoother
Better understand your home's setup
Bathrooms, spare bedrooms, offices, and guest rooms often make excellent starter spaces.
3. Be ready for a conversation.
Once we've reviewed your application, we'll reach out to discuss:
Your household and lifestyle
The cat you've applied for
Whether another cat in our care may be an even better match
Any questions you have for us
Our adoption process is all about finding the best fit for both you and the cat.
4. Meet your potential new family member!
If we believe it's a good match, we'll schedule a meet-and-greet with the cat.
5. Adoption Day
Once approved, we'll finalize the adoption paperwork, review your cat's medical records and care instructions, answer any remaining questions, and send you home with your newest family member!
